RhinoFLEX vs Waste Master
An accordion hose that costs very little against a smooth-bore system that costs several times as much. The argument is about residue.

The short answer
The actual difference
A pleated accordion hose has ridges on the inside. Waste flows over them and some of it stays in them. Rinsing works, but it is rinsing a corrugated surface and the result is never as clean as a smooth pipe.
A smooth-bore hose has no ridges. Water sheets through it and takes everything with it. The Waste Master adds a clear bayonet nozzle with a built-in valve, so you can see when the flow has gone clear and you can shut it off at the sewer end rather than at the trailer.
That is the whole argument, and it is a real one. It is also a comfort argument rather than a function argument: both systems empty a tank perfectly well.
Side by side
| RhinoFLEX | Waste Master | |
|---|---|---|
| Bore | Pleated accordion | Smooth |
| Residue in the hose | Some, in the ridges | Minimal |
| Integrated valve | No — separate gate valve | Yes, at the nozzle |
| Nozzle | Opaque elbow with 4-in-1 adapter | Clear bayonet nozzle |
| Trailer connection | Standard bayonet, removable | Permanent trailer-side fitting |
| Fittings availability | Everywhere | Brand-specific |
| Compressed storage | Compresses well | Reported to compress tightly |
| Relative cost | Low | Several times higher |
The thing to understand before buying the Waste Master
It is designed around a permanent fitting on the trailer’s waste outlet. That is how the integrated-valve design works — the hose connects to a fitting that stays on the trailer rather than to the bare bayonet.
Practically that means two things. You are committing to the system, because a standard hose does not connect the same way without swapping back. And replacement parts are brand-specific rather than available at every RV store in the country, which matters when something breaks on a Friday evening.
The common mistake
The middle ground most people should look at first
Before spending several times the price of a RhinoFLEX, look at the two mid-premium accordion hoses. The RhinoEXTREME is the same design with a much heavier wall, and the Thetford Titan uses metal-reinforced polyolefin that resists abrasion better than vinyl.
Both cost a fraction of the smooth-bore system and address the complaint most people actually have, which is hoses splitting rather than hoses holding residue. The full roundup.
The verdict
Buy the RhinoFLEX if you are starting out. Buy the RhinoEXTREME or the Titan if you camp most weekends and want a hose that lasts. Buy the Waste Master if the accordion residue genuinely bothers you, you are happy to commit to a brand-specific system, and the price is not a factor. Most people are in the first two groups.

Thetford Titan Premium RV Sewer Hose Kit, 20 ft

Common questions
If accordion residue bothers you, yes. For most owners the complaint is hoses splitting, and a heavier-walled accordion hose addresses that for far less.
Not straightforwardly. It is designed around a permanent trailer-side fitting and brand-specific parts, and replacements are less widely stocked.
