About Trailer & Hitch

A buying-guide site for people who bought their first travel trailer and discovered that matching a hitch to it requires a forum account and a lot of patience.

Why this site exists

Choosing a weight distribution hitch should be arithmetic. You measure your loaded tongue weight, you read the bar rating off a chart, you buy the one that covers it. In practice, somebody new to towing meets a wall of brand loyalty, half-remembered forum advice and listicles that rank by affiliate commission.

Trailer & Hitch is organized the other way round. Every commercial page here is enterable by the thing you actually know — your trailer’s weight, or your tow vehicle — and the arithmetic is on the page rather than implied.

Who it is for

A first-time travel trailer or camper owner, matching hitch and setup gear to their tow vehicle and their trailer’s weight. That is a narrow audience on purpose. Pages written for the experienced spec-comparison reader look different, and we are not writing those.

Practically it means we gloss the jargon on first use on every page, we name the mistake first-timers make early rather than at the end, and we never scold a reader for not knowing something they bought their trailer last month.

Who writes it

Mike M. is the hands-on owner behind Iron Mako Media. Trailer & Hitch exists because matching a hitch to a trailer and a tow vehicle should not require a forum account.

There is one author on this site and one byline. No pen names, no “staff,” no expert panel. If a page is wrong, there is one person to tell.

What this site will and will not claim

We do not test these products. There is no test lab here, no fleet of trailers and no owned units. Every recommendation is a documented reading of published specifications, current marketplace signal and what owners consistently report — and where a page draws on owner reports it says so rather than implying first-hand experience.

That is a deliberate position, not an apology. Three competitors in this niche have genuinely earned hands-on claims, and a falsifiable claim next to their true one would be worse than no claim. What we offer instead is the thing none of them publishes: a written method, with weights, that you can check.

We also do not invent credentials. No certifications, no licenses, no years of full-timing, no named rig we do not have. If the honest version of the bio is short, the bio is short.

What is actually on the site

  • 79 guides, roundups, comparisons and reference pages across 6 categories.
  • 94 products in the registry, every one resolved against a live retailer listing rather than typed from memory.
  • Prices read automatically and date-stamped, which expire on their own after 48 hours rather than going stale.
  • A published scoring rubric with the weights visible on every product card, so a score can be recomputed by anybody who disagrees with it.

How this site makes money

Affiliate commission. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you. No brand can pay for a ranking or for inclusion, and commission never decides the order of our picks — where one product is better for the buyer we link it even when another pays more.

The full version is on the affiliate disclosure page, and the rules we hold ourselves to are in the editorial policy.

The publisher

Trailer & Hitch is published by Iron Mako Media.

How to reach a human

contact@trailerandhitch.com, or the contact form. Corrections, disagreements and “you have this wrong” are all welcome, and the more specific the better — name the page and the claim.

We do not publish a phone number or a postal address. This is a publishing operation rather than a storefront, and email is the channel that reaches us.
